Google regularly updates its Pixel smartphone and tablet range with updates, just as Apple updates its devices, and Pixel owners should check their devices for the December 2023 update now, because there’s some good stuff there!

As Google explains, Pixel devices get even more helpful with Feature Drops, and says they are “They’re “automatic software updates that send new and upgraded features to your phone, tablet, earbuds, and watch.”

We’re told “your Pixel phone now has more ways to create stunning photos and videos, even after you’ve taken them. And your Pixel phone, watch, and tablet are even better at adapting to you, with more productivity tools to help you save time and get more done throughout your day,” with all the updates explained in detail at this official Google Blog post.

These updates go as far back as the 5G version of the Pixel 5a smartphone from 3 years ago, and there are new features as well for the Pixel 6/6 Pro/6a, Pixel 7/7 Pro/7a,  Pixel 8/8 Pro, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet and Pixel Watch.

The rollout is happening over a few weeks – unlike Apple, not all devices get the update immediately. I was checking for an update in the US, but it’s only when I checked earlier today that my Pixel 8 Pro finally got the update.

Here’s the official video showing what new features and capabilities are on offer:

Google says “Users will receive a notification once the Over The Air (OTA) update becomes available for their device. Be sure to update to the latest Android version and update your apps, then look out for a notification from the Pixel Tips app to learn more about all of the ways your Pixel just got more helpful.”
