In age of fast food being unhealthier than ever before, people want the goodness of home cooked meals they can make with fresh ingredients, and while a genuine Thermomix isn’t cheap, it is the height of modern cooking with many modes and luxuries that owners are fanatical over – and it makes for a great gift!
Mother’s Day is this weekend, but with owners using their Thermomix on a regular basis, it’s a gift you can easily use all year round, as the saying goes.
Many people find the Thermomix TM6 is like a second pair of hands in the kitchen, and makes preparing meals easy and efficient, easing the demands of day-to-day life so the whole family can spend more time together.
After all, with the increasing demands of modern life, the stress of putting food on the table has made dinner the least favourite time of day for more than half of young Aussie families.
And actually spending time together, rather than being glued to screens, is something missing in modern life, and it’s one of the reasons why time saving devices were invented in the first place. I certainly have seen the metal board that my grandmother used when she was a young woman to “wash” the family clothes with. Who would ever want to use one of those again?
So many home appliances have changed the way humans live, and for the better!
So, what makes a Thermomix TM6 special, and which justifies its AUD $2579 price tag?
Well, it replaces over 20 appliances with one, You can chop, blend, whip, weigh, mill, knead, mince, sear, sous vide and plenty more, all at the touch of a button. If Rosie the Robot was a cooking machine, she might well have been a Thermomix!
Of course, it’s Mother’s Day very soon, so if you want something a bit different, Thermomix has some specials to tempt you even further:
1) There’s a bonus virtual midweek meals cooking class, so the whole family can join and learn how to prepare three quick and delicious recipes to decide ‘what’s for dinner?’ together.
2) There’s also a free six-month subscription to Cookidoo, which is the company’s online recipe library, straight to the TM6’s screen, providing access to thousands of step-by-step recipes on-screen, menu planning and family favourite inspiration.
In the lead up to Mother’s Day, motivational speaker and best-selling author Turia Pitt has shared her top tips on how her Thermomix has helped her avoid the ‘dinner time dread’ and transform dinner time into something her family looks forward to.
A study conducted by The Mix Australia, reveals that dinner time is the least favourite time of day for more than half of young families, with three-quarters of families saying they wish they could spend less time preparing dinner each week.
Turia knows all too well the struggles of balancing a successful career while raising two young boys alongside her husband, Michael.
After spending years suffering from ‘dinner time dread’, she shares the four top tips that helped her transform dinner time into something her family now looks forward to.
- Keep it simple:
The number one pain point for young families when it comes to dinner is time, with almost three- quarters (72%) saying they wish they could spend less time preparing dinner each week.
As a result, nutrition is frequently sacrificed in favour of convenience, with 40% of young families saying they often get takeaway for dinner because they don’t have time to cook, while three-quarters (74%) say they would cook healthier meals if it was easier.
“Health is extremely important to me, but there’s a misconception that making a nutritious meal is time consuming,” said Turia Pitt.
“I used to think everything I made had to be like something you’d see on a cooking show which can often take hours, but I keep it simple with family favourites on weeknights. It gives me peace of mind that my family is getting a healthy meal which I know they’ll love.”
- Planning is key:
Deciding what to make for dinner can be an added source of frustration for young families, but Turia Pitt believes sticking to a routine can make all the difference.
“Having to think about what I was going to cook each night took way too much brainpower at the end of a busy day, and often resulted in me recycling the same meals.
“Now I make the effort to sit down on a Sunday and plan all our meals for the week which gives me the time to consider new ways to spice up our family favourites.
“I also meal prep where possible to ensure there’s nutritious meals ready to go for when plans change and I’m unable to cook a fresh meal.”
- Invest in timesaving appliances:
With kitchen prep one of our biggest bugbears around dinner time, time-poor Aussies are crying out for an ‘easy one-stop shop’ to make dinner great again.
“I used to get so overwhelmed when I’d see a recipe which had dozens of different steps or required me to use every cooking utensil under the sun,” said Turia Pitt.
“Since investing in a Thermomix, now I can add all my ingredients and let it do its thing while I tick other things off my to-do list. I can give the boys a bath, help with homework or get a quick workout in and come back to a home-cooked meal from scratch.
“The best part is, the Thermomix is self-cleaning so I’m not left with a sink full of dishes at the end of the night.”
In a recent survey of Thermomix customers, 98% say they’ve noticed a difference in the time they spend in the kitchen since purchasing the Thermomix TM6.
- Make cooking fun:
A lack of enjoyment in the kitchen plays a major role in how Australians perceive mealtimes. More than three-quarters (76%) of young families admit they consider preparing dinner a chore.
“My boys love to help at mealtime, so I’ve started turning cooking into an activity we do as a family,” said Turia Pitt.
“It’s the best of both worlds for me. I get extra pairs of hands which speed up the dinner making process, while also spending quality time with the boys which I would otherwise miss out on while I’m in the kitchen.
“I also love to experiment with my Thermomix. One of my favourite things to make for a special occasion is my delicious choc mint slice which is a crowd pleaser amongst my family and friends.”
Bianca Mazur, CEO of The Mix Australia and New Zealand, which distributes Thermomix products said: “As a mum of three, I only know too well how difficult it can be to put delicious and healthy food on the table every night, amongst everything else. Thermomix is the second pair of hands us mums need in the kitchen, giving us back time to spend on what we really love.”
