The video industry has gone through a number of revolutions over the past 100+ years, and the last decade has been no different, with the 2016 NDI standard a catalyst for BirdDog’s creation, resulting in dramatically transformed TV, video, production and workflow capabilities you need to know about, so please watch the video interview below and read on!
Technology is forever changing and improving, usually for the better, and when networking, the Internet, high definition, remotely operated and super flexible PTZ cameras converge with an award winning software and hardware platform that ties it all together – you start to get a glimpse into the remarkable BirdDog story.
At its simplest, BirdDog is an Australian-founded but now truly global video technology company that develops and manufactures high quality hardware and software solutions for all types of video productions.
Plenty more details below, but first, my vide interview with BirdDog CEO and Co-Founder Dan Miall is embedded directly below!
BirdDog’s solutions greatly increase the quality, speed and flexibility of video that can be delivered over existing network infrastructure, be it existing Ethernet in a building or venue, via easily deployable single Ethernet cabling, wirelessly, or over the Internet to anywhere in the world.
As BirdDog explains, its solutions can be easily and effectively effortlessly “implemented without significant capital outlay, effectively democratising broadcast quality video content in an industry historically dominated by highly specialised operators.”
Part of the special sauce, besides BirdDog’s own advances in hardware, chip design and software, is NDI (which stands for Network Device Interface), a royalty-free software standard to “enable video-compatible products to communicate, deliver, and receive high-definition video over a computer network in a high-quality, low-latency manner that is frame accurate and suitable for switching in a live production environment.”
The company explains it was first worldwide to develop a custom silicon chip to do NDI encoding and decoding – with a long list of world firsts that followed since, including first NDI hardware encoder, first NDI hardware decoder, first NDI cameras, first NDI Tally hardware, first NDI audio intercom solution, first NDI routing software, first NDI video scopes, first NDI auto-tracking for PTZ Cameras, and many more.
It’s really quite remarkable, and with its products widely used by professional video and corporate AV providers including broadcasters, live streaming, corporate installations, TV production, education, events of kinds including concerts, sporting matches and more, houses of worship, digital signage solutions and more, it is fantastic to see an Australian company taking on the world, and delivering world-beating software!
As as you’ll see in the video interview, BirdDog technology is now impacting the medical space for the better, too, enhancing surgical collaboration, and more, with Remedi!
Below, you’ll find two more videos from from BirdDog’s YouTube channel.
The first video is titled “Stories – Slash9 Productions at Rampage”, and the second is the “BirdDog Cloud 10 Update and Demo”, both of which are referenced in the video interview with Dan, and both of which I absolutely recommend you watch to learn more!
